A small delegation of Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail devotees made a pilgrimage to the public orchard in nearby Blondin Park to attend a tree pruning lesson arranged by Ealing Park Rangers. Our thanks to Jon and John for arranging the lesson, and thanks to Paul for being our lecturer.
Attendees learned some basics about the fruit trees, their origins, common diseases and care, tools and tool care. We learned to make a basic assessment of a tree and begun learning where and how to cut the trees to maintain good health, good yield and a small enough size so that the tree remains manageable and the fruit remains in reach.
We plan to attend the follow-on lesson later this year, and plan to team up with expert advise when pruning the orchard tree yearlings in winter this year.
