While the Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail is still growing and and not yet producing fruit, other public orchards in the area are well-established and well worth visiting for a leisurely walk, a first-hand orchard experience or simply for some delicious apples or pears.
Cranford Country Park is one such location, featuring an orchard in the old walled garden with a variety of apple and pear trees. The park can be reached by car along the A312, or on foot or bicycle along the Grand Union tow path (exit after the Paddington branch fork via the Pump Lane Industrial Estate flyover exit and roll straight down into the park).
The Cranford Country Park orchard is partially managed, but the trees are clearly in severe need of TLC and must have been neglected for some while. For the Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail, we take this both as an example for how wonderful a fully grown orchard can be as well as a warning to keep on top of tree care and pruning things.
