The Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail is growing! We welcome our most westerly extension into Bixley Triangle, Southall, with a very special story:
Previously of a sad reputation as a drug users’ gathering place, the top soil in Bixley Triangle has been cleared and 2 1/2 boxes of abandoned injecting equipment were collected and removed by the Metropolitan Police, Catalyst Housing, Southall Transition and some local community gardeners, Canal and River Trust and Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail, just in time before young children from the Greenford childrens centre boosted the numbers and brightened up the grey day with a splash of pink. The grounds were raked and grass was put down, and three local Councillors were on hand to help planting the first of fruit trees.
We welcome three new trees to the orchard trail, and much appreciate everyone’s help in this fantastic effort to help improve the area. We were thanked by locals, and extend our appreciation to those who initiated and enabled this project.
Not everyone is entirely comfortable watching policemen dig, but this was for a good cause!
(Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed photos and photographic equipment on the occasion.)
