Tree Tending Tuesday

We have reached the end of the 2016 Tree Tending Tuesday season. Light fails too early to support evening tree care, so we suspend our weekly evening activity until spring 2017. We might call for an occasional impromptu session during daylight hours, when necessary.

One might wonder what the tree tending team does every Tuesday. Trees are planted and now take their slow time to grow, that’s it, right? That’s what we thought, too!

We pruned the trees at pruning time. We removed dead wood, infected leaves and gave broken branches a clean cut throughout the year. We dealt with vandalism and picked litter, removed nettles, brambles and bindweed, rubble and other man-made items such as wire, copper pipes and steel bars. We watered the trees when necessary, replaced stakes, replaced or adjusted tree labels, ties and rabbit guards. We checked on bird boxes and pests such as the oak processionary moth. We spoke to neighbours, dog walkers and joggers.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped out in person or in spirit.
