Volunteers

Why not volunteer at the Hanwell and Norwood Green Orchard Trail?

Who

We take you! No matter if you are an expert in the field or suffer from two left hands, whether you can occasionally join us for a short time or regularly give us a hand, we’d be excited to have you join our circle of active members.

No experience is necessary, all abilities and ages are welcome.

We believe volunteering in our orchards and surrounding areas is actually a lot of fun and quite rewarding. All you need is sensible clothing, suitable shoes and a sense of humour. If you can bring tools or knowledge that’s great, but you don’t have to.

Where

You can find out about the forthcoming events on our volunteer schedule page, which lists the next dates and locations. Be sure to check shortly before the event, as the location often changes subject to requirements.

Please join our volunteer email group. You’ll receive reminders and updates in your inbox, and you’ll be able to respond and be part of the discussion.

You can also follow our Twitter and receive reminders of events and location.

When

We meet every Tuesday evening except for the winter months to look after trees, orchards and surroundings from 19:00, typically to retire for the social part of the evening in the Fox Inn, Green Lane, at around 20:30.

We meet every second Saturday in a month for more of the same: mechanical weed control, tree care, watering, scything and collecting of rubbish are among the routine tasks performed from 11:00 to approximately 14:00.

We also meet occasionally on a short notice and in smaller groups for ad-hoc work, for example to address urgent need for watering or weeding, or to perform special work such as pruning.
